Surat Yarn Sector Eyes Global Expansion with SGCCI’s Mission 84 | Loktej Business, Surat News

SURAT — In a pivotal move to expand the global footprint of Gujarat’s yarn sector, the South Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) convened a significant meeting during the Yarn Expo on Sunday. Key players, including representatives from the United Gujarat Yarn Dealers Association, both past founder Rajesh Vekaria and its current president, Pankesh Patel, participated in the dialogue.

Chamber President Ramesh Vaghasia underscored the history of Surat’s export prowess, referencing the 16th and 17th centuries when 150 cloth varieties were shipped from the port of Surat, even without the advantages of modern technology. “Today, with technological advancements, exporting has become more accessible. However, the onus lies on producing yarn locally in Surat, from which clothing and readymade garments can be crafted and sent overseas,” Vaghasia remarked.

The focal point of the meeting was SGCCI’s ambitious “Global Connect Mission 84.” The initiative’s goal is to see Surat’s products gaining international prominence and being exported to 84 countries. The yarn dealers pledged their support for this mission, committing to elevate exports through this platform.

Addressing the concerns of the yarn community, President Vaghasia assured that the Chamber would act as a bridge, communicating the industry’s challenges to the local, state, and central governments. He emphasized collaborative solutions, urging dealers to submit their queries in writing for thorough attention and redressal from the Chamber’s platform.
